I’m near the end of a major yard overhaul – front and back. Earlier this year, I did a goal setting exercise and part of that process was to determine the “domino” goal…that is, the one that will impact all the other goals on the list. For me, it was finally getting to this yard project.
Given that my other goals include things that seemed totally unrelated, such as building new branches on my business (oh! I just wrote ”branching”…can’t keep the garden puns out here, lol), it didn’t make sense that the yard goal was the domino one but I’ve done this goal-setting exercise other years so I know enough to trust what comes from the process.
And now I can see the connection.
Nothing like a major, expensive house project to bring up every last buried emotion in you, like…
- Fear around choosing the wrong landscaper and potentially wasting a lot of money if the project doesn’t come together right…and shame when that actually happens.
- Anger at myself over not asking better questions and being more clear with the landscaper.
- Insecurity around what everyone will think if the yard doesn’t look much better or wasn’t done correctly, after putting all the effort and money into it.
- Guilt over messing with the homes of all the many critters that live in the yard (I can’t believe the number of ants that have surfaced!) and over killing/wasting new plants that weren’t properly cared for by us or that the landscaper liked and we didn’t.
- Sadness over saying goodbye to the old plants which were ready to go but still kind of felt like old friends (we’ve been here 25 years).
No comment on how irrational any of this might be!
But that is exactly why taking my yard back to its literal roots was the domino goal for this year…to dig up emotional roots that have been subtly impacting other areas of my life too. No surprise, the capstone to the yard experience was some major issues with the irrigation system – water represents the emotions.
Fortunately, I have intuitive practitioner friends who do what I do as an intuitive life coach: Help to identify the roots of stuck emotions, clear them out and provide techniques and perspective to keep them from getting restuck and creating havoc again. So between them and an amazing sprinkler repair guy, both myself and my yard are back in the flow.
Even when the road is a challenge, it really entertains me to find the connections, solve the puzzle and see how the Universe always gives us what we need when we’re ready.
And that’s why I love helping other people with their “life puzzles” too. So, if you are struggling with a challenging experience that is leaving you feeling overwhelmed, angry, confused or even just impatient to have things better, and you’re interested in an intuitive approach that addresses the energy as well as the practical, schedule an individual coaching session with me to:

and lighten the path for everyone in your orbit too. 💗
And by the way, this photo shows only the smallest corner, which actually was a minimal part of the project….more of a refresh whereas the rest was a near-complete tear out. But it’s the only part that looks improved for now, while we wait for the growth to happen everywhere else….🤞🌱
